Farmer jailed for stealing fowl

Techiman (B/A) May 26, GNA – The Techiman Circuit Court has sentenced a 32-year old farmer to two years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing two live fowls valued at 100,000 cedis. Kwame Ameyaw pleaded guilty to stealing the fowls belonging to Mr. Yaw Sarfo Kantanka of Asamanhunu, near Tuobodom.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Sampson Y. Jebuni, told the court, presided over by Mr. Justice Erasmus Gyinae, a High Court Judge, that on May 7 this year, Mr. Sarfo Kantanka also a resident of Asamanhunu on his return from a funeral at Forikrom realized that two of his fowls were missing.

Chief Inspector Jebuni said a witness who saw Ameyaw stealing the fowls told the complainant but the accused denied the offence. Mr. Sarfo Kantanka reported the matter to the police and the accused was arrested.

Mr. Justice Gyinae said the sentence should be a signal to people, especially the youth who want to become rich through any means.
