Teachers urged not use as springboard for other employment

Bechem (B/A), May 25, GNA – Mr Nicholas Anane-Adjei, acting Tano District Chief Executive has advised teachers to discard the idea of using the profession as a springboard for other employment.

“If teachers accept the work they do, they become more committed and are always regular and punctual and this will promote effective teaching and learning”, he said.

He was addressing more than 500 pupil teachers at separate meetings at Duayaw-Nkwanta and Bechem in Tano North and South districts to discuss the way forward for education.

Mr Anane-Adjei stressed that the success of education in the district did not depend on trained teachers alone but also pupil teachers.

He announced that some of the pupil teachers would be selected for the best teacher awards this year to motivate them and asked them to work harder to merit selection.

Ms Veronica Essuman Nelson, Tano District Director of Education appealed to teachers to change their attitude to work.

She said most of the teachers were not punctual to school whilst particularly the female ones used contact hours to engage in other businesses to the disadvantage of the pupils.

Ms Nelson warned such teachers to refrain from the practice as they would be sanctioned when caught.

The District Director expressed concern about the low academic performance of public schools as compared to private ones in the District and tasked the teachers to work to reverse the trend. She warned teachers who entered the Service with fake certificates and false result slips that they would be found out sooner or later.
