Aflao, May 23, GNA – Two Ghanaian stowaways on a South African vessel to Spain have been deported to Lome, Togo.
The two, who have since been handed over to Ghanaian security personnel at the Aflao Border by their Togolese counterparts and Ghanaian embassy officials in Lome are Samuel Kwame Sarpong, 28, a farmer from Axim in the Western Region and Kwaku Essiam, 25 a Mason from Essipong, near Sekondi.
Mr Baba Moro, Aflao Police District Crime Officer, briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the tow claimed to have worked at the Abidjan seaport in Cote d’Ivoire, where they lived. He said on April 23, this year, the two hatched a plot to stowaway on the South African vessel on which they claimed to have worked that day.
Mr Moro said the vessel docked in Spain on April 30, this year and while disembarking they were spotted by the port security and detained in the ship until their deportation to Lome on May 11, this year. He said the two deportees have since been transferred to Accra for further investigations.
