Gomoa Mozano (C/R), May 19, GNA – Mr Isaac Edumadze, the Central Regional Minister, has appealed to parents not regard the increase from three to four years for the Senior High School under the Education Reform Programme as an extra burden on them.
He said the increase would make the students to be adequately prepared to enable them perform well when they enter the universities and the other tertiary institutions.
Mr Edumadze said this when he was performed the sod cutting ceremony for the construction of a 450 million cedis’ six-unit classroom block for the Mozano Senior Secondary School at Gomoa Mozano-Eshiem. The Gomoa District Assembly would use 200 million of its HIPIC and 250 million cedis of its common fund to finance the project to help reduce acute accommodation problems facing the school.
The Regional Minister said that the reform was an attempt at ensuring quality education in Ghana since it places emphasis on Science, Mathematics and English as subjects vital to the accelerate development of the nation.
Mr Edumadze urged Ghanaians to support the government in giving out the best education the children deserve so that they could contribute meaningful to the development of the nation. He warned against the wanton destruction of government properties during student’s unrest and urged them to use the available channels of communication to help resolve their grievances.
Mr Emmanuel Tsibu, the Headmaster, mentioned lack of accommodation for both students and tutors as some of the major problems facing the school.
He said the school, established in 1992 as a community school with 34 students, now has a student population of 1,181. 19 May 05
