Twins assaults two policemen at Bogoso

Tarkwa (W/R), May 19, GNA – Two policemen were assaulted by a group of young men at Bogoso last Monday.

One sustained injuries on the head and leg, whereas the other had a fracture on his left wrist The two policemen, Constable Frederic Osei and Lance Corporal Syivanus Mireku were both stationed at Bogoso.

Narrating the incident to Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Tarkwa, DSP Benjamin Wordui, Prestea District Police Commander said the two policemen, Constable Osei and Constable Dan Antwi were on their way to the Bogoso Police Station, when they came across one Asare Bediako alias Abass, who was wanted by the police and therefore arrested him. While Bediako was being escorted to the charge office, DSP Wordui said Atta Panyin Ntrakwa and his twin brother, Atta Kakra Ntrakwa and others attacked the policemen and freed Bediako, who is now at large. He said the two policemen then went and reported the incident at Police Station and then left to their duty posts.

Constable Osei was detailed to the Bogoso branch of the Ghana Commercial Bank and Constable Antwi was sent to Fiaseman Rural Bank, Bogoso.

DSP Wordui said, moments later, Atta Panyin, wielding a locally made pistol and some others went to Constable Osei’s duty post at the Commercial Bank and on three occasions threatened to shoot him. Constable Osei called for assistance from the police station and Lance Corporal Sylvanus Mireku was dispatched to the bank.

He said the fourth time when Atta Panyin and his group arrived at the bank, a scuffle ensued and in the process Lance Corporal Mireku sustained injuries on the forehead and on the right leg and Constable Osei also had a fracture on his left wrist.

The two policemen, however, managed to arrest Atta Panyin, who also sustained injuries on the head, but the rest managed to escape with the pistol.

DSP Wordui said, the two policemen and Atta Panyin were sent to the Prestea Hospital for treatment and have since been discharged. Meanwhile, Atta Panyin was brought before a Tarkwa Circuit Court and has been remanded in prison custody. His plea was not taken and will re-appear before the court on May 21, 2005. The court was presided over by Mr John Ajet Nasam.
