Gomoa Jukwa, C/R, May 18, GNA – The Gomoa Jukwa SDA Senior Secondary School (SEDAS) has embarked on a number of projects estimated to cost of 1.8 billion cedis to improve facilities to enhance effective teaching and learning.
The projects include a Science Laboratory, Administrative and Home Economics blocks, 36 classrooms and an electrification project. Pastor Richard Ntriakwa, Director of the School, announced this at the launching of the programme for the 2nd Speech and Prize Giving Day schedule for June 5, 2005 at Gomoa Jukwa in the Central Region under the theme “Private Schools Partnership in the Development of Education in Ghana”
The Director said more than 100 million cedis had been spent on the project to connect the school to the national grid, adding that, 22 low-tension poles had been erected for purpose.
Pastor Ntriakwa said the computer laboratory could not be used because the School had not been connected to the national grid and stated that “a number of the computers have broken down because of power fluctuation because we were using a generating plant”.
The newly appointed Headmistress, Mrs Ekua Aseidu Ntriakwa said her vision was to make the School “the first among equals to be counted as one of the best institutions in the country”.
She said the school had put in place measures to check students with “deviant character” to promote discipline and academic work. Mrs Ntriakwa said the school had also embarked on a counselling programme to encourage students to desist from immoral boy-girl relationship to avoid pre-marital sex, which could lead to HIV/AIDS and STDs.
Mr Francis Odoom, Management Secretary, appealed to the Gomoa District Assembly, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, NGOs and donors for assistance to solve the problems confronting the institution.
He said girl-child education was a priority of the school and urged females in the Agona, Gomoa, Ajumako and Awutu-Effutu-Senya Districts to enrol to obtain higher education. Mr Odoom stated that the Day, which would be marked in June, would be used to raise funds to complete projects in the school. 18 May 05
