65-year-old man charged with defiling 8-year-old girl

Cape Coast, May 18, GNA – A 65-year-old painter, who allegedly sexually abused an eight-year-old girl after she had asked him for a Christmas gift, was on Wednesday remanded in prison custody by a circuit court at Cape Coast.
He pleaded not guilty to defilement and would reappear on Wednesday June 8.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo, told the court, presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah, that on January 2, this year, the girl approached Kwesi Annan, who lived in the neighbourhood at Korankyekrom, near Saltpond, and asked him for a Christmas gift. Inspector Amonoo said Annan told the girl to accompany him to his room for the gift, and when they entered the room he pushed her to his bed and had sex with her.
After the act, Annan gave the girl some biscuits and a powdered soap and warned her not disclose her ordeal to anybody, the court heard. He said the victim left the room in tears and met Annan’s sister, who questioned her as to what she went to do in her brother’s room, and she narrated her ordeal to her.
He said the matter was reported to the police and Annan was arrested.
