C546.5m provided to basic schools in Assin

Assin Fosu (C/R), May 17, GNA- Mr Johnson Omudie, Assin District Director of Education, has announced that Government had released a capitation grant of 546.5 million cedis for the payment of levies and fees for primary school pupils in the district. He has therefore warned the school heads not to collect the money from the beneficiaries.

Mr Omudie gave the warning at the close of a 10-day workshop for 60 primary school teachers and six circuit supervisors, selected from 20 schools in the Assin North and Assin South districts. The workshop was organised by the Assin Area Development Programme of the World Vision, Ghana, in conjunction with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation.

It was aimed at building the capacity of the teachers in the use of vernacular, teaching of Mathematics and Environmental studies. The District Director appealed to Government to release outstanding grants of the basic and junior secondary schools.

He commended World Vision for sponsoring the workshop and the provision of educational infrastructure, textbooks, uniforms and teaching aid to schools in the district.

Mr Kwabena Karikari Apau, the acting Assin North District Chief Executive, asked the teachers to be good ambassadors of the workshop, by sharing the knowledge and skills acquired with their colleagues.
