Akpeteshie seller jail for defilement

Asamankese(E/R), May 17, GNA – A 22-year-old Akpeteshie seller, Stephen Kwaku, has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment in hard labour by the Asamankese Circuit Court for giving “akpeteshie” a local gin, to a 12-year-old girl before defiling her.

Prosecuting, Detective Police Chief Inspector Osei Owusu told the court that the victim and the accused lived at Anum Apapam in the Suhum/Kraboa/Coaltar District. On May 19, 2004 when the girl’s mother left for the market, the accused invited her to his drinking spot and sent her to fetch him water.

He again asked the victim to pound fufu for him after which he told her to have her bath. The accused later gave the girl some akpeteshie to drink and when she got drunk he defiled her but warned her she would die if she informed anybody about what had happened. Three days later someone informed the victim’s mother and she made a report to the police who arrested the accused. 17 May 05
