Labourer remanded for snatching away handbag and contents

Takoradi, May 16, GNA – Francis Mandiyeya alias Kwesi Atuley, a 28-year-old labourer was on Monday remanded in prison custody by a Takoradi Circuit Court for stealing. He pleaded not guilty and would reappear before the court on May 23.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Kumah Mensah told the court that the complainant, Theresa Osei, an auditor resident at Anaji near Takoradi, travelled to Accra and arrived in Takoradi on April 4 around 0130 hours.

He said since there were no vehicle to convey the complainant home, she rang her husband to come and pick her from the “Effiakuma no.9” Post Office area.

Inspector Mensah said while waiting, the accused and one Tijani, who is now on the run, attacked the complainant and took away her hand bag containing a Nokia 2100 mobile phone valued at 1.2 million cedis, two yards of women’s cover cloth, 500,000 cedis cash and a Casio calculator valued at 210,000 cedis.

The prosecutor said a complaint was lodged with the Police who arrested the suspect at a hideout on April 28.
