Trouble brews in church as elders lock out overseer

Tema, May 15, GNA – The desire of members of the Tema branch of the United Bethel Pentecostal Central Ministry to worship on Sunday was dashed when elders locked the church.

The six elders locked out Rev Yaw Appiah-Kubi, the General Overseer, accusing him of taking decisions that contravenes the Church’s constitution and biblical doctrine.

Consequently the elders have interdicted the General Overseer with immediate effect. However, he has one month to appeal against the decision.

He is accused of taking unilateral decisions, committing adultery and has divorced his wife, Veronica, whom he has two issues with without any tangible reasons.

The congregation, most of who claimed they knew nothing about the problem between the General Overseer and the elders, were forced to worship outside the church.

A letter signed by the six elders accused the Rev Appiah-Kubi of having extra marital affair with a lady in the church and soliciting money from members “thus putting the church and your office as the General Overseer into disrepute.”

Rev Appiah-Kubi denied the allegation and explained that the action is a calculated attempt to embarrass and demoralise him after going through difficulties to build the church.

He said his attempt to make changes in the leadership of the church might have prompted the action because some of the elders thought they could be affected.

Concerning the issue about his wife, the General Overseer said, “this is a matter between husband and wife which should not be for public domain”.
