Agona District Assembly gets Presiding member at the long last

Agona Swedru, May 15, GNA – Alhaji Mahama Osumanu Abeka, a tutor of the Swedru School of Business, has been elected unopposed as the Presiding Member of the Agona District Assembly. Alhaji Abeka, Assemblyman for Babiabiha electoral area polled 62 votes while two voted against him.

Mr Serebour Quaicoe, the Agona District Electoral Officer who supervised the election, said that even though Mr Abekah was the only candidate who had filed his nomination at the close of nominations, the law required that voting should take place to determine his fate. The seat became vacant last November when the former Presiding Member’s tenure of office expired. Since them the election of a new presiding member had been ending at a deadlock with none of the contestants gaining the two-thirds majority.
