Amanfiman Bank supports Akropong mortuary project

Wassa-Akropong (W/R), May 13, GNA – The Amanfiman Rural Bank has donated 20 million cedis towards the construction of a 200 million cedis mortuary for the government hospital at Wassa-Akropong in the Amenfi West District in the Western Region.

The facility, when completed would alleviate the problem of sometimes sending corps to Dunkwa-On-Offin, Takoradi or Kumasi for preservation with its attendant high costs to bereaved families.

Captain Fred Quaah Afful (rtd) Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank told the Ghana News Agency at Wassa-Akropong on Friday that the donation was part of the bank’s social responsibility programme to communities in its catchments area.

Last year, the bank provided financial assistance to build nurses quarters for the hospital to ease accommodation problems of staff, and spent millions of cedis on education sponsorship package for needy students.

Mr Afful said the bank had been engaged actively in nationwide immunization and other health programmes to ensure their successful implementation.

Dr. Frederick Yaw Sarpong, Medical Superintendent in charge of the hospital expressed his gratitude to the Amenfiman Rural Bank for the support and said the donation would go along way to ensure the completion of the project, which is dear to the hearts of the people. The hospital took delivery of eight new mortuary refrigerators a few months ago from the Ministry of Health, but they could not be used them, because of the absence of a morgue.

Dr. Sarpong lamented over continued encroachment of lands belonging to the hospital and appealed to the district assembly and the traditional authorities to help check the situation.
