Ghana lobbies for Amoako

Accra, May 4, GNA – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nana Akufo-Addo, MP, will lead a three-member Ghanaian delegation to hold consultations with the Heads of State of Zimbabwe, Malawi and Namibia from May 5 to 10 to solicit support for Dr K. Y. Amoako as the head of African Development Bank (ADB).

Dr Amoako, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa has been nominated by President Kufuor for the post of the bank, which is currently vacant.

A message signed by Mr. Michael Ofori-Atta, Public Relations Officer of the Office of the Minister, said the continent’s premier development institution, in accordance with its rules and regulations, will hold elections on May 18, this year for the post of the President of the Bank in Abuja, Nigeria.

The message said after the three-nation visit, Nana Akufo-Addo would go to Ethiopia to attend the meeting of the African Union’s Committee of ten on UN Reforms.

The meeting will consider the reform of the United Nations in the light of the Secretary-General’s proposals for reform, contained in his report entitled: “In larger freedom: towards development security and human rights for all.”

Nana Akufo-Addo will return on May 13, this year.
