Ho, May 1, GNA-The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is to facilitate the up-grading of infrastructure and learning facilities at Nurses Training Colleges in the country to meet the Accreditation Board’s criteria for granting tertiary status to the institutions.
The Volta Regional Health Directorate would ensure that the phase-by-phase work on the multi-billion cedis new Nurses College complex in Ho was completed on schedule.
Dr Andrews Arde-Arquah, Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, who announced these, said the Directorate would continue to ensure the improvement of facilities at the present site of the college and promised that all classrooms would be fitted with public address systems.
He was speaking at the induction of 106 newly admitted Diploma Group 7 students into the Ho Nurses Training College in Ho on Friday.
Dr Arde-Acquah said the increase in intake of students in the College had put a lot of strain on the tutors and facilities but expressed optimism that the Ministry of Health would motivate the workers and provide the requisite logistics to improve teaching and learning.
He asked the students to consider their admission into the college as a calling, which required competence and high sense of morality. Mr James Agboada, Principal of the College, said provision of additional facilities over the past year, including six big pavilion classrooms had enabled the college to increase intake from the usual 40 students to 106 students.
He appealed to government to provide the college with additional buses, computer laboratory with at least 60 computers hooked onto the Internet and more demonstration rooms to “enhance the practice of psycho-motor skills”.
The new students including 32 males, were inducted into the college by Mrs Felicia Otchery-Darko, Principal State Attorney in the Volta Region.
They pledged among other things to thread the footsteps of Florence Nightingale, be kind, patient and just to patients.
