Begoro gets new lorry park

Begoro (E/R), April 29, GNA – A two-billion-cedi lorry park constructed by the Fanteakwa District Assembly under the World Bank Urban Five Project had been inaugurated and handed over to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) at Begoro on Tuesday.

The lorry park has an office, market stores, passenger lounge and water closet that took fours years to complete. The district assembly paid 10 per cent marching fund of the cost of the park.

Mr Ebenezer Ofoe Caesar, the acting District Chief Executive of Fanteakwa, appealed to the GPRTU to permit other drivers’ unions to operate at the station, saying lorry parks were not the monopoly of the GPRTU.

He appealed to drivers to pay lorry park tolls and other taxes regularly to generate revenue for the district.

Mr Alex Kwabena Amoama, the Chairman of the Begoro Branch of GPRTU, promised to ensure that discipline prevailed between drivers and passengers at the lorry park.
