Oguaa workers plant trees to herald May Day celebration

Cape Coast April 28, GNA – Workers in the Cape Coast municipality on Thursday planted more than 200 seedlings of acacia to launch the celebration of this year’s May day.

The day is being celebrated under the theme “unity of purpose under freedom of association: the role of organized labour”. Workers of all the unions under the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in Cape Coast took part in the three-hour exercise. In an interview with the GNA, Ms Dorcas Amuquandoh, regional secretary of the union, said the exercise was the union’s contribution towards the country’s forestation.

She said the union was not only interested in receiving assistance from the government but the time has come for members of the union to also contribute their quota towards the development of communities where they work.

Other activities planned to commemorate the day are a clean- up exercise at the Anafo market, a health walk, a church service and a durbar.
