Fear grips Anum as murders on farms continue.

Anum (E/R), April 27, GNA – Some citizens of Anum in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region have called on the Inspector General of Police and the MP for the area to help check the recent spate of murders in the town.

This followed the discovery of the bullet-riddled-body of Mr Kofi Ofosu, aged about 30 years in a bush near his farm about two weeks ago. Ofosu failed to return from his farm on Saturday and a search party discovered his body the following day.

This murder brings to six, the number of such incidents in this predominantly farming community in recent times, a spokesman for the community Opanin Kwame Acheampong told the GNA at Anum on Tuesday. “As a result, farming activities have been adversely affected and many people continue to live in perpetual fear as one cannot tell who the next victim will be”, he said.

In May, 2004 Mr Andrew Kwadwo Essah, a 58-year-old ex-serviceman now a newspaper vendor was shot dead on his farm in a similar fashion. Opanin Acheampong appealed to the people to provide information that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

No one was arrested in the previous murders, but the Police are with holding the name of the suspect in the latest incident while investigations continue.
