Ashaiman MP descends on public land encroachers

Ashaiman, April 24, GNA – Mr Alfred Kwame Agbesi, MP for Ashaiman, has warned that residents who have encroached on land earmarked for public development projects in the constituency would have their structures demolished.

He said there are plots of land earmarked for schools, health centres, markets, roads, stadium and others but they have been encroached upon with impunity.

The MP gave the warning during the second in a series of meetings he held on Saturday for residents of Lebanon and Jericho at Ashaiman to explain to them parliamentary proceedings and to collectively find solution to development problems of the area that is gradually turning into slam.

He said, for instance, the Tema Municipal Assembly had approved the upgrading of the Health Centre for the area but because of non-availability of land due to encroachment it was relocated to Tema Manhean.

The MP called on the encroachers to move honourable because they would not be compensated when their structures are demolished because their being there is illegal.

In this direction, the Tema Development Corporation and Tema Municipal Assembly would be invited to re-demarcate all boundaries of public projects in the constituency.

Mr Agbesi said he would not compromise his stand and debunked the assertion from certain circles that he would not be re-elected in the next parliamentary and presidential elections if he took the action.

“The I will not vote for you issue if you do this or that must stop. If you know you are doing the right thing the people will definitely have confidence and return you to power to continue with the good work”.

During an open forum, constituents blamed the traditional authorities for the indiscriminate sale of land while the TDC and TMA were also mentioned for poor supervision.
