Reschedule English examination in BECE

Saltpond (C/R), April 22, GNA – Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, Mfantseman District Chief Executive (DCE) has appealed to the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) to re-schedule the English papers of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to the third or the fourth day instead of the first day.

He noted that English and Mathematics were the two subjects that scared students most and said if the English papers were shifted to the third or the fourth day when they candidates had overcome “examination fright” they would perform better.

“Candidates would do better after the third day when they have become adjusted to the examination conditions,” the DCE said after visiting the six centres in the district to wish the candidates good luck.

Mr Anthony Adjei Kusi, Presiding Member of the Mfansteman District Assembly, accompanied him and Mr S A Erskine, Chairman of the Education Sub-committee.

The supervisor at Saltpond told the DCE that out of 2,720 candidates 23 made up of 12 girls and 11 boys did not turn up for the examination while three pregnant girls were taking part.

Mr Quainoo-Arthur rushed a student of the Anomabo Methodist School on admission at the Saltpond Hospital to the Kweigyir Aggrey Secondary Technical School centre at Anomabo to write the examination. The DCE’s gesture followed information reaching him that there was no security officer available to supervise the boy at the hospital to write the examination.
