Forty people acquire employable skills in Asante-Akim South

Asankare (Ash), April 20, GNA – The Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC) and the Asante-Akim South District Assembly are jointly assisting 40 people in the district to acquire employable skills. They are being trained to make batik, tie and dye, soap, powder, pomade and ointment among other skills.

The trainees are drawn from Dampong, Adomfe, Bompata and Asankare and are mainly people whose wards are benefiting from a joint education scholarship scheme of the two bodies.

Mrs Vida Korang, ISODEC Project Co-ordinator, said the idea was to help raise their income levels so that in the event of the withdrawal of the scholarship, the education of their children would not be in jeopardy.

The six-year project under which ISODEC has been providing financial assistance to pupils in some schools folds up this year. She said arrangements had been concluded with the assemblies to incorporate the skills training activity in their development plans. 20 April 05
