Abura Dunkwa (C/R), April 14, GNA – The Abura-Asebu-Kwamankesse District Hospital did not record any maternal death last year, due to a number of measures put in place by the hospital.
Mr Andrew Mensah, acting District Chief Executive, who made this known at the People’s Assembly held at Abura Dunkwa on Wednesday, said the district the assembly sponsored the training of five health aides last year, who are currently working in some of the health facilities in the district to help improve health delivery.
The programme was to bring government’s policies to the doorsteps of the people and was attended by chiefs, opinion leaders, heads of decentralized agencies, and a cross section of the public. He said six trainees were currently under going psychiatry nursing training at the Ankaful Nurses Training College, adding that, the district would soon start the registration and collection of premium on the National Health Insurance Scheme.
On job creation, Mr Mensah, who is also the MP for the area said under the Rural Enterprise Project in the district, 200 people will be trained in batik, tie and dye and business development and urged the youth to avail themselves to the opportunity.
He announced the district assembly would soon start a industrial starch production factory, which would employ about 500 people in the areas for primary production, processing and marketing. Touching on education, he said a 500 million education endowment fund has been launched and more than 3,870 billion has so far been spent in the construction of new schools and the renovation of old one, adding that, a total of 7,800 pieces of furniture have been supplied for distribution to schools.
Nana Osam Kwesi VII, Chief of Abura Dunkwa, who presided commended the government for providing the area with a number of development projects and asked that work on the Abura Dunkwa town roads should speedup.
