Resettlement of street Hawkers

Accra, April 14, GNA – The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Thursday repeated its call on traders affected by the decongestion exercise to submit their names to the Assembly to facilitate the resettlement process.

A statement in Accra signed by Mr Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson, Chief Executive Officer of AMA, asked all traders and street hawkers, including those displaced by the recent decongestion exercise to forward their identification particulars together with two passport pictures to any of the following Associations by Friday April 29, 05.

The associations are, United Petty Traders Association, the Positive Traders Association and the Street Vendors Association. The statement said despite repeated demands by the Assembly, the traders had persistently refused to comply with the directive, a stand which was seriously hindering efforts of the Assembly to streamline and coordinate trading activities in the Metropolis as required under section 5 (1) of the Assembly’s Hawkers Permit Bye Law (1995).
