Ignore Wahala demonstrations – MP

Agona Swedru, April 10, GNA – Mr Samuel Obodai, MP for Agona West has called on Ghanaians to ignore the series of demonstrations by the Committee for Joint Action (CJA) against the recent increases in the prices of petroleum products.

He said the government was not insensitive to the plights of Ghanaians as was being said by “the Wahala demonstrators”, and stated that the CJA had realised that the people of the country had ignored them.

Mr Obodai pointed out that the government had not intentionally unleashed economic and social hardship on the very people who voted for President J A Kufuor and the NPP by increasing petroleum prices. He explained that the unstable price of crude oil had brought about the hike.

Speaking at the Agona Swedru Central Market after presenting 50 crates of minerals to the women in appreciation for voting for President Kufuor and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the second term in last year’s elections.

He pointed out that the savings that would be made from the removal of subsidy on the prices of fuel would be used to construct roads, hospitals, educational infrastructure and the provision of social amenities to improve the living standard of the people. The MP asked Ghanaians rely on the NPP to repair the fragile economy it inherited and called on supporters and members of the party to embark on serious educational programmes to explain government policies and programmes.

Mr Amoh-Mensah, Agona West Constituency Chairman of the NPP said the government was development oriented and urged the women to pay their taxes regularly.

He said the government would open factories under the Rural Enterprise Development programme to create jobs. Mr Amoh-Mensah said the government was going to install another Traffic light at the Gomoa Aboso-Police Station Junction on the main Winneba /Swedru road to regulate traffic.
