Kumasi, April 09, GNA – Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, on Saturday appealed to workers of the Metro Mass Transit Company to be committed to the task of easing transportation problems in the country. He said this is the only way they could win the confidence of the people and also raise enough money to sustain the company.
Nana Osei Asibey II, Otumfuo’s Deebuosohene, said this on his behalf when the staff of the company undertook a three-hour clean-up exercise at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Saturday. The Asantehene told the workers that they were rendering services to the public and so they should be courteous, patient and respect passengers.
He commended them for coming to work at the palace and expressed the hope that they would continue to do that regularly.
Mr Anthony Obiri-Yeboah, the Ashanti Regional Administrator of the company, said the exercise was their contribution towards tidying up the palace in preparation for the celebration of the coming ‘Akwasidae’. He urged residents in the metropolis and travellers to help keep Kumasi and its environs tidy at all times to bring back its past glory. Mr Anthony Obiri-Yeboah called on passengers who board the metro buses to insist on receipts after paying their fares because there are inspectors going round to check tickets and those found guilty would pay a spot fine of 10 times the fare.
