Charitable organisations told to break grounds in their support to communities

Tema, April 9, GNA – Dr Charles Brempong-Yeboah, Deputy Minister for Manpower, Employment and Youth on Saturday called on charitable organisations to break new grounds in their support to individuals and communities.

The Minister, who made the call at the Joint Consultative meeting of the Lions Club of Zone 161 and 162 at Tema stated that, the country’s demographic survey reveals that, so much poverty and deprivation prevails in the northern parts of the country and some areas outside Accra.

The meeting is being observed under theme: “Achieving Success Through Friendship”, with its motto: “We Serve”.

Dr Brempong-Yeboah commended the 12 Lions Clubs in the country for their immense contribution towards the socio-economic development of the country.

The clubs in their various capacities have constructed schools, clinics, water projects, some of which are still under construction, offering scholarship to needy students and the important role played in the vaccination and immunisation of children against the eradication of polio.

The Deputy Minister however, suggested to the Club to consider adopting some of the district assemblies as “friends of the district” to guide their development programmes and packages with their expertise. He noted that, most communities and assemblies need large infusion of technical expertise and inputs from consultants, which they have in their club, saying, the assistance is very crucial for the total development of the nation.

Dr Brempong-Yeboah prayed that the club would continue to have resources for its gesture to complement government’s efforts at human resource and rural development.

He also urged benevolent organisations to contribute some of their energies to the HIV/AIDS awareness campaign, since report of contraction is alarming. Some clubs and individual active members, who have excelled were honoured.
