Goaso (B/A), April 7, GNA – Goaso District Magistrate Court, presided over by Mr Osei Kwame, on Wednesday remanded Collins Kwaku Kusi, 25, a tailor at Ayomso in the Asunafo District in Brong Ahafo Region in police custody for defrauding four cocoa purchasing clerks (PCs) of various sums of money amounting to 12,936,000 with a promise of selling them bags of dried cocoa beans but failed to do so. He pleaded not guilty.
According to the prosecution, Chief Inspector Ben Brew, in November last year, the accuse person on different occasions approached his victims for various sums of money and promised to sell them some bags of dried cocoa beans but failed to do so and went into hiding. He said, the accused was arrested by his own mother and handed over to the police.
He is to appear before the same court on Monday, April 11. At the same court, the accused was sentenced to a fine of one million cedis or in default three months imprisonment for defrauding Mr Paul Kudolo, a cocoa purchasing clerk of OLAM Company, two million cedis with a promise of selling him four (4) bags of dried cocoa beans which he failed to honour.
According to prosecution, Chief Inspector Ben Brew, on October 10, 2004, the accuse collected 2 million cedis from the complainant with a promise of selling four bags of dried cocoa beans to him but failed his promise.
He said the accused later on made part payment to the complainant and later on paid the rest of the money to the police.
