Aliu arrives in Dakar

Dakar, April 4, GNA – Vice President Aliu Mahama on Sunday arrived in the Senegalese Capital of Dakar, with Foreign Affairs Minister Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, to participate in the 45th Independence Anniversary of that country.

Dakar, a former colony of France became independent on April 4, 1960.

Prime Minister Macky Sall, led a Government delegation to welcome the Ghanaian team on arrival at the Leopold Senghor Airport, a facility named after the country’s first President.

Ghana’s Ambassador to Senegal, Mr Fred Laryea and Embassy officials were also at the airport to receive the Ghanaian delegation.

Vice President Mahama and Nana Akufo Addo held a brief closed door meeting with the Senegalese officials.

The Ghanaian delegation, were welcomed with cheers from enthusiastic Ghanaian crowd, lined up along major roads waving the national flag as they left the airport to their hotel.

Ghana would consolidate years of bilateral relations by officially opening its chancery in Dakar on today (Monday), after the anniversary parade.

The Ghanaian Ambassador would also serve the Gambia. The Ghanaian delegation is expected to return home on Monday.
