Mason fined for slapping pregnant woman

Twifo Praso, April 2, GNA – Yaw Twumasi, a 42 year old mason from Praso who assaulted Ms Grace Ofori, a pregnant woman was on Wednesday sentenced to a fine of 900,000 cedis.

Twumasi who pleaded guilty to assault will go to prison for four months in default.

Mr Joseph Blay presiding at the Twifo Praso Magistrate court ordered that 500,000 cedis out of the fine when paid should be given to Ms Ofori as compensation.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector George Okine told the court that on March one, Twumasi picked up a quarrel with Ms Ofori and in the process slapped her.

According to the prosecution the woman bled profusely and was rushed to Praso government hospital where she was treated.
