Shoemaker granted 20 million-cedis bail for defilement

Kumasi, April 2, GNA – A 20-year-old shoemaker resident at Donyina in the Ejisu-Juaben district charged for defiling a 14-year-old Junior Secondary School student has been granted bail in the sum of 20 million cedis by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Adu Twum who pleaded not guilty to the charge would re-appear on April 14.

Police Inspector John K. Afful, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that both the victim and Twum lived in Donyina and that on February 5, this year, the victim suddenly fell ill and was taken to the Donyina health centre for attention.

Upon medical examination, it was revealed that she had been defiled.

The victim then confessed when interrogated that Twum came to her house at about 2200 hours a month earlier and taking advantage of the quietness in the house took her to her uncle’s room and had sex with her after, which he warned her not to tell anyone about it.
