Accra, March 30, GNA – The United States and Ghana Government officials on Wednesday started discussions on improving and supporting the labour front in the country.
The discussion centred on labour development policies, ensuring collaborative efforts for youth development, employment generating initiatives and child labour and trafficking, human resources development programmes and Government-Labour Unions relationship. Ambassador Mrs Mary Carlin Yates led the US team while Dr Kofi Adda, Minister of Manpower, Youth and Employment was leader of the Ghanaian team.
Among those present were Mr Scott B. Ticknor, Chief of Political Section US Department of State; a representative of USAID and Mrs Akosua Frema Osei-Opare and Dr C.Y. Brempong-Yeboah, both Deputy Ministers of Manpower, Youth and Employment.
Dr Adda outlined the policy direction of the Ministry for Positive Change Chapter II and stressed that the Government had raised the status of the Ministry to Cabinet level.
Mrs Yates commended the Government for its focus on youth employment, which was prioritised in the Budget and called for pragmatic efforts for its implementation.
