Second rainstorm hits Ahafo-Ano North District this year

Anyinasuso (Ash), March 29, GNA – A severe rainstorm hit six towns in the Ahafo-Ano North District on Saturday night, the second in two months, damaging two school buildings, 48 houses and rendering 391 people homeless.

Property running into several millions of cedis was also lost. The affected towns were Anyinasuso, Kyekyewere, Bonkron, Nyamebekyere, Akwasiase and Tepa.

Nana Atakora Kodua, the District Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) during a visit to the affected areas, expressed his sympathy to the people and assured them that he would expose their plight to the appropriate quarters for assistance. He attributed the frequent rainstorms in the District to the rate at which people were destroying the forests, which served as windbreak and appealed to the community leaders not to collaborate with illegal loggers and chainsaw operators to destroy the environment. 29 March 05
