Apam (C/R), March 23, GNA – Mr Kobena Koi, a regular listener of proceedings at the new Apam magistrate court, has appealed to the Judicial Service and the Gomoa District Assembly to replace the set of furniture in the courtroom.
Mr Koi described as an eye-sore, the set of furniture currently being used by the officials in the new courtroom, which was built by the Assembly some five years ago.
“The set of furniture for both the bench and the bar in this nice building does not befit the service,” he said in an appeal through the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Apam.
He said apart from the benches being worn out and broken, they were not enough to seat people attending the court, adding that in most cases, they had to stand throughout the proceedings.
Mr John Ewusie, the court registrar, told the GNA that he had written several letters to the head office of the Judicial Service in Accra requesting for a new set of furniture, “but no help has come.” The Acting Gomoa District Chief Executive, Miss Joyce Aidoo, who handed over the building after its completion, said an official from the Judicial Service who received the keys had pledged to bring a new set of furniture from Accra and expressed surprise that the official reneged on his promise.
