Kwahu Traditional Council rules on Atibie chieftaincy dispute

Mpraeso, March 23, GNA- A three-member Judicial Committee of the Kwahu Traditional Council, has ruled in favour of the Kwame Kyere royal family in a dispute with the Kwabena Odom family over the vacant Akroko Stool at Atibie.

In a 25-page ruling, the Chairman of the Committee, Nana Kwame Kumnipa IV, who is also the Twenedurasehene, said there was sufficient evidence that the Kwame Kyere had the right to install a new Atibiehene to succeed the late Nana Asante Akroko II, who died last year. The other members of the committee were Nana Adarkwa Boadi Yiadom II, Kwahu Prasohene and Nana Birifa Dankwa II, Oworobonghene. According to the committee, a writ filed by Opanin Yaw Kumah and Gideon Appenteng of the Kwame Kyere family on March 30, last year, sought the declaration of the Council’s Judicial Committee on the dispute.

The writ claimed that an accord between the two families indicated that a successor to the stool should be on rotational basis. The Committee said an order of injunction filed by the Queenmother, Nana Ama Akoma and the Abusuapanyin Opanin Yaw Mensah, of the Kwabena Odom gate, claimed that the plaintiff was qualified to occupy the Kronti and Twafo stools of Atibie and not the Akroko stool.
