University of Ghana will protect its integrity -Registrar

Accra, March 17, GNA – Authorities of the University of Ghana (UG) Legon on Thursday assured the students, parents and the public that it was determined to protect the integrity of its teaching, examination and certification processes.
It has therefore, pledged to deal in a very firm and decisive way with any person or persons found to have compromised the integrity of these processes without fear or favour and in accordance with due process.
The assurance was given in a statement issued by the University in Accra and signed by Mr A.T. Konu, the Registrar.
It said the Mfodwo Committee set up to investigate allegations on irregularities during the last November/December end-of-semester examinations had submitted its report to the Executive Committee of the Academic Board.
The statement said the Committee under the chairmanship of Mr S.B. Mfodwo, a retired Academic Registrar confirmed that six out of the over 400 question papers administered leaked.
It said the Executive Committee had after careful deliberations decided to cancel the papers that leaked and directed that arrangements should be made for candidates to re-write them at the end of the second semester.
The statement said the Mfodwo Committee also made adverse findings against certain members of staff, students and other individuals and the Executive Committee had directed that disciplinary proceedings should be initiated against them.
“In the meantime, steps are being taken by the University to address the examination system’s failures as identified by the Mfodwo Committee in order to avoid their recurrence”, it said.
