Australian High Commissioner lauds Ghana.

Cape Coast, March 18, GNA – Mr Jon Richardson, the Australian High Commissioner, on Friday said Ghana’s sustained commitment to democracy, human rights, economic reforms and good international and regional relationships had made it easier for other countries to do business with her.

He said Australia re-opened its High Commission in Ghana after 20 years of closure due to the confidence it now has in the country. ”The two countries will continue to enjoy positive bilateral relations based on shared values and objectives as well as trade and commercial ties.”

Mr Richardson said this when he paid a courtesy call on Mr. Isaac Edumadze, the Central Regional Minister.

He is in the region to witness the graduation of the first batch of students who offered computer courses at the African Vitual University (AVU) at the University of Cape Coast that Australia and the World Bank sponsored.

Mr Richardson said his government had plans to increase its sponsorship and support for small-scale businesses.

Australia would, apart from investing in mining, water and sanitation, diversify into other commercial areas to assist in the accelerated development of the country.

Mr Edumadze thanked the High Commissioner for making the region his first point of call and appealed him to extend development projects to the region.
