Accra, March 17, GNA – The Police on Thursday deplored reportage by a section of the media on the issue of a successor to the current Inspector General of Police (IGP), Nana Owusu Nsiah.
A statement issued from the Police Public Relations Directorate in Accra on Thursday said, “The police administration deplores the reportage of a section of the media, which seek to paint the change-over in the position of the IGP in an antagonistic light”.
It said for over the months now, the media have engaged themselves with the reports of Nana Nsiah’s retirement and the appointment of a new IGP.
“Sometimes the stories carried by some of these newspapers only serve to create animosity between the incumbent IGP and the incoming one or potential ones.
“In as much as the Police Administration does not have any problem with reports of hints and views of journalists in respect of who they wish or suspect would be the next IGP, it takes every reservation to the language in which these stories are couched,” the statement noted. It referred to a headline by the Ghanaian Voice newspaper captioned “Bye-Bye IGP and all feuding schedule officers”.
The statement said, that story indicates that the retirement of the IGP “Will precipitate the introduction of a revolutionary installation of young, dynamic, competent and very loyal officer whose objectives are raising the standard of Ghanaian police personnel to the level of those in the West”.
