Community extends power to school to facilitate learning

Gomoa-Obokrom (C/R), March 16, GNA – Electricity has been extended to the Gomoa-Obokrom Junior Secondary School in the Central Region to facilitate teaching and learning.

An Awards Scheme has also been planned for the teachers to motivate them to sustain the first position of the school in the Basic Schools Certificate Examinations in the Gomoa District for the past three years. Nana Kusah Abaka-Obo, Chief of Obokrom, announced these at a meeting of the elders of the town with the headmaster, Mr Stephen K. Ainooson and his assistant, Ms Faustina Gyaketey at Obokrom to discuss matters affecting the school.

This was after Nana Abaka-Obo and the Omankrado; Nana Obentsi-Atta III had led the people of the area to work on a new market for the community, which is nearing completion.

Mr Albert K. Essah, Assemblyman for the Obokrom and Gomoa/Kumase/Enyamem Electoral Area said the measures part of plans to promote education in the area.

Mr Ainooson commended the Chiefs, opinion leaders, the Assemblyman and the community for the initiative and said the school authorities had started night classes for the final year JSS students following the extension of power to the school.

He disclosed that the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) had added the school to the list of institutions and organisations in the area to receive wheat rations. Ms Gyeketey said the sustained tree-planting programme of the school for the past three years attracted ADRA. She said apart from the ration, ADRA had also constructed two KVIP toilets for the school to improve sanitation.

The Assistant Headmistress appealed to the Ministry of Education, the District Assembly and NGOs to provide computers for the Information and Communication Technology training programme of the school.
