Court grants bail to two persons for stealing

Ejisu (Ash), Mar.16, GNA – Two of three persons standing trial at the Ejisu district court on charges of conspiracy to commit crime, stealing and unlawful entry have been granted bail in the sum of 16 million cedis.

The third person, Rahmani Grushie, 50, the second accused in the case was remanded in prison custody to re-appear in court on 22nd March this year.

Karimu Grushie, 59, third accused in the case was granted a 10 million cedis bail with one surety and will also re-appear on March 22, while Ali Alhassan, 24, a driver’s mate was granted a six-million cedi bail or in default serve three years imprisonment. Alhassan and Karimu both pleaded guilty to the charge, while Rahmani pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting, Inspector Nkansah Twumasi told the court, presided over by Mr Noble Nkrumah that all accused persons are workers of the Agyeiwaa Memorial Company, manufacturers of roofing sheets and iron nails at Tikrom near Ejisu.

He said on February 22, 2005, Rahmani and Karimu, who are property guards of the company reported for duty while Alhassan, a mate to one of company’s articulated trucks also came to the compound driving one of the articulated trucks to work through the night. Prosecution said Alhassn and Karimu then stole 10 gallons of diesel, and Alhassan on his way to Ejisu to sell the booty was met by one Victor Osei, a friend of Mr Charles Opoku, the Managing Director of Agyeiwaa Memorial company.

Mr Osei suspicious of Alhassan demanded to know where he got the diesel from and after threatening to arrest him, the accused owned up.
