Some Publishers pay taxes- PRINTAG

Accra, March 16, GNA – The Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana PRINPAG has noted with concern recent media publications which tended to indict their membership over their tax liabilities.

A statement Mr Nii Laryea Sowah, Executive Secretary of PRINPAG said, “Much as our members are obliged to fulfil their tax obligation, we also want to stress that some Editors and Publishers are highly responsible citizens who have diligently been servicing their tax obligations over the years.

“PRINPAG would like to take this opportunity to urge our members that society is ruled by laws and regulations and they must endeavour to abide by these regulations as well as their cooperate responsibilities. It said it was also a statutory obligation for Publishers to register with the National Media Commission and also join PRINPAG to acquire Certificate of membership before coming to the newsstand.

It observed that those newspapers come to the newsstand with non-existent addresses and office location on their imprint.

“However, these papers are surprisingly given prime-time on FM radio stations where their newspapers are reviewed.

“PRINPAG wishes to assure the public of our quest for media pluralism and help ensure sanity and discipline in the private newspaper industry to help deepen Ghana’s democratic dispensation,” it said.
