Assembly collects 80.2 percent of set revenue target

Juaso (Ash), March 15, GNA – The Asante-Akim South District Assembly realised 11.2 billion cedis out of the 13.9 billion cedis revenue target set for 2004.

Of this figure, 636.4 million cedis was generated from its own internal sources, Dr Lord Justice Gyamfi-Fenteng, the District Chief Executive, said at the second ordinary meeting of the assembly at Juaso. He said the internally generated revenue for the year under review represented an increase of about 62 percent over the 2003 figure of 382.8 million cedis.

The DCE described the 2003 performance as remarkable, saying the assembly has moved from the “last position on the Regional League Table to the third”.

Dr Gyamfi-Fenteng said the improvement was the result of measures introduced to enhance efficiency in the revenue collection system and seal leakages.

These included the implementation of valuation lists on the Juaso, Obogu and Bompata markets, incentive packages for revenue collectors and intensification of tax education campaign in the area. The assembly’s total expenditure during the period stood at 11.2 billion cedis.

Mr Eric Aboagye, the Presiding Member, called for hard work from the assembly members to enable the assembly achieve goals it set for itself.
