Ho Poly receives grant for HIV/ADS programme

Ho, March 14, GNA – Ho Polytechnic has received a grant of 10,000 dollars from the Association for Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) to develop an institutional HIV/AIDS policy as part of the national effort to contain the pandemic.

Dr George Afeti, Principal announced this at the 5th Congregation of the Polytechnic on Saturday.

He said the import of the policy was to counter the threat posed by the disease since the “polytechnic demographic composition corresponds to the age group of 15-49 years that is greatest at risk”. Dr Afeti said although there was no known case of HIV/AIDS at the polytechnic, the institution could not ignore the scare and danger of the disease.

He said the policy would seek to sensitise the polytechnic community to respect the basic human right of those infected. The policy would also encourage attitudinal and behavioural change as well as Voluntary Testing and Counselling, Mr Afeti added.
