VRA supports 23 Communities in the Volta Region

Maafi Aklamador (VR), March 12, GNA – Twenty-three communities in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region, have received educational materials estimated at 30 million cedis from the Volta River Authority (VRA). The assistance forms part of VRA’s contributions towards the promotion of five key areas the country’s socio-economic development.

Ms Abla Fiadjoe, Community Relations Manager, VRA, mentioned the five priority areas as education, supporting income generating projects, provision of social infrastructure, supporting festivals to promote the country’s diverse cultures, as well as youth training and development. She was presenting 300 pieces of exercise books to the Aklamador Kindergarten School Complex on Friday at Aklamador in the Volta Region, as part of the VRA’s contribution towards the development of education in the area. She noted that due to lack of learning materials, some children in the villages after being enrolled in school feel reluctant to go to school hence VRA’s decision to provide learning materials to some communities in the District at the beginning of every academic year. Education, she said, is a vital tool for development and must be supported not only by the Government, but also by other individuals and organisations.

The Community Relations Manager expressed the Company’s preparedness to support efforts to provide quality education to the people in the area. She urged the children to learn hard to make sure the investment made in them by the Government and their parents would be worthwhile. The Chairman of the School’s Management Committee, Mr C. K. Yakah, who received the books on behalf of the school, thanked the VRA for the gesture and hoped other organisations would emulate the VRA gesture. He said the people of Aklamador had started the construction of a block of six classrooms and appealed for assistance towards its completion.
