Accra, March 12, GNA – A Ghanaian resident in New York, Nana Fosu Randall, is to spend 435 million cedis on 29 teachers of the John William Montessori School in Kumasi for a three-month training. She said her initiative was to ensure high academic performance as well as smooth teaching and learning in the School.
Nana Fosu, Founder of the School and the Voices of African Mothers (VAM), an NGO in the US, who made this known to the GNA in Accra at the weekend, said the beneficiaries would be drawn from the nursery, primary and Junior Secondary School levels of the institution. She said three Canadian experts in Montessori methods, Miss Steky Calleen, Mr Chris Austin and Professor Merville Johnston had arrived in Ghana to run the programme. Nana Fosu who worked for 29 years with the United Nation (UN) in New York said the school, which was established in 1997 had 600 pupils and students. She stated that, there was the need to equip the teachers with skills in Montessori Information Technology to promote teaching and learning.
Nana Fosu explained that this would motivate the children to pursue their interest at their own pace, adding that, “I feel obliged as a Ghanaian to help in my country’s development process hence my bringing in the experts to help train the teachers at my expense”. Mrs Agnes Osae, Headmistress of the School, commended Nana Fosu for the gesture and urged the teachers to take advantage of the programme to win the confidence of the children and their parents.
