Obuasi is not under any threat, says MCE

Obuasi, March 11, GNA – The Obuasi Municipal Security Committee (MUSEC) says the municipality is not under any threat from criminals. However, the MUSEC has fashioned out plans to deal with criminals operating in the municipality.

Mr Joe Boampong, the acting Municipal Chief Executive who briefed the press on rumours of criminal activities, said “there is no panic in the municipality despite the reports of the isolated cases of rioting among some groups”.

He said the MUSEC had identified the areas where the criminals met “and very soon the areas will be attacked and destroyed”. Mr Boampong, who is the chairman of the security committee, said the committee would reward anyone who would give a tip-off for the arrest of one Jonathan Addy alias Bosco Natinbongo, whom the police had described as the most wanted criminal in the municipality.

Chief Superintendent Bob Ayalingo, the Obuasi Municipal Police Commander, he said Natinbongo had a lot of cases before the police including the snatching of mobile phones, raping and armed robberies. He said the police had stepped up its night patrols and the area of coverage has been expanded to include nightclubs where the criminals go to misbehave.

Mr Ayalingo appealed to the public to assist the police to arrest all the criminals.
