Mobila’s assassins identified – A-G

Accra, March 9, GNA – Mr J. Ayikoi Otoo, Attorney-General (A-G) and Minister for Justice on Wednesday said the police had identified three suspects who could be held liable for the death of Issa Mobila, the Northern Regional Chairman of the CPP, who died recently, while in the custody of the security personnel in Tamale.
“The three suspects, though have denied their involvement could be tried based on circumstantial evidence”.
“I have directed that the three suspects be arrested and charged and brought down to Accra”, the Minister told Parliament in answer to an urgent question from Mr Edward Doe-Adjaho, Deputy Minority Leader, who had sought to know the status of the late Mobila’s murder docket, which was submitted to the A-G’s office.
The Justice Minister said the docket was not complete because after charging the accused persons, they have “either to volunteer fresh statements or choose to rely on their former statements given to the police during investigations.” “While awaiting the charged cautioned statements, I have directed the Director of Public Prosecutors to start preparing the Bill of Indictment in order to fast track the process,” he added.
Mr Otoo said: “The status of the docket therefore, is that, my office is awaiting the return of the police docket, which would contain the charged cautioned statements for the Bill of Indictment to be completed and for the trial to begin.”
In answer to a supplementary question from Mr Adjaho as to the identity of the three suspects, the Minister said they were military men.
