Freetown-March 6 Celebrants Raise $1700 For Children

Celebrants at a party organised by the Ghana High Commission in Sierra Leone on March 6, 2005 to mark Ghana’s 48th Independence Anniversary raised an amount of $1700 which will be used to buy books for five schools in Sierra Leone.

Pupils from the five schools, the Milton Margai School for the Blind, the Freetown School for the Deaf, International School, Methodist Girls High School, Annie Walsh Memorial School and the Lady Patricia Kabbah Memorial School were guests at a Children Party held on March 5, 2005 to herald March 6 in Freetown.

The amount was raised from the auction sale of Made-in-Ghana drinks from GIHOC Distilleries and Kumasi Breweries Limited as well as 10 autographed copies of -FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM, THE AUTOBIOGRAPGHY OF AN AFRICAN JOURNALIST, donated by the author, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Sierrra Leone, His Excellency Kabral Blay-Amihere.

In line with Government policy to promote Made-in -Ghana goods abroad all the drinks served were from Ghana.

Attending the party was a a cross-section of members of the international community and Sierra Leone as well as a number of Ghanaians resident in Freetown.

The High Commissioner expressed his deep appreciation to those who kindly helped to raise the amount and said that it was the best way to celebrate Ghana’s Independence Day since the donation will make a major difference in the education of children in the beneficiary schools.
