The National Democratic Congress (NDC) would not have abandoned its responsibility for ensuring that the price of petroleum products is not left to be determined solely by forces whose primary motivation is profit making, had the party won the mandate of the people.
Captured on page 44, clause viii, of the 2004 its Manifesto, the NDC stated clearly: “We will take another look at the processes for the deregulation of the petroleum sector and make sure that an NDC Government does not abandon its responsibility for ensuring that the price of this vital lubricant of the national economy is not left to be determined solely by forces whose primary motivation is profit.”
This clear statement of intent notwithstanding, the NPP propaganda machinery has set out to deceive the people of this country that the NDC would have implemented the deregulation of the petroleum sector the same way that the NPP is doing it.
It is clear from that portion of the manifesto that the NDC is not against deregulation per se, but will have pursued it very differently from the way the Kufuor-led NPP government is going about it.
