Woman in court for insulting a Chief

Asamankese (E/R), March 2, GNA – A woman, who insulted her chief, calling him “stupid” and allegedly threatened to “teach him a lesson” has been granted one million cedis bail by the Asamankese Circuit Court. Ama Fulame, a farmer, pleaded not guilty to a charge of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace and would re-appear before the court on March 9.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector J. F. Idan told the court, presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah that, Fulame lived with her husband at Aworasa, near Asamankese.

The Prosecutor said on January 16, this year, the chief of Aworasa, Nana Asomaning had a tip-off that some people in the community had killed a stray cow in the bush and cut the carcass into pieces for their consumption.

Based on this information, he said the chief lodged a complaint with the police and three persons, including Fulame’s husband, were arrested.

He said the accused became offended and confronted Nana Asomaning, when he was returning home from his farm and verbally abused him. She allegedly called him “a stupid chief” and asked him, “is the land for you? If your ancestors were to rule the inhabitants in this manner, could we have existed up till now? Is the cow for you? Has anyone come for a cow from your kraal?”

The prosecution said Fulame then threatened to teach Nana Asomaning a lesson but he did not alter a word, and reported her conduct to the Police, who arrested her.
