Court grants photographer 20 million cedis bail for rape

Kumasi, March 1, GNA- A Kumasi Circuit Court has imposed a 20 million- cedi bail with two sureties to be justified, on a 26-year-old Photographer who allegedly defiled a 14-year-old student. Osei Yaw, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, will re-appear on April 4.

Police Chief Inspector Agnes Dinkyini told the court presided over by Mr Essel Mensah, that at about 2100 hours in September last year, the accused person who introduced himself as an officer with the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service asked the victim who was in the company of a boy what they were doing at that time of the day.

Chief Inspector Dinkyini said without provocation Yaw attacked the boy who took to his heels leaving the victim behind. He said Osei then dragged the victim to a farm and defiled her. Chief Inspector Dinkyini said the victim’s groans, alarmed a dog, which barked to draw the attention of a tenant living nearby who helped to arrest Yaw and handed him over to the Police. Yaw however, denied defiling the girl and said he rather prevented her from the crime he was been accused of.
